93.5 Chrome FM

93.5 Chrome FM "Tulsa Oldies Station" was birthed live at 4pm on January 31, 2009. This radio station kicked and screamed it's way on the air after 1 hour of "Stunting" with robotic sounding 50's movie lines. 93.5 Chrome FM is designed to appeal to you, the true "oldies fan". This is pure, deep 50's and 60's music.

93.5 Chrome FM gets it's name as a result of Program Director Kevan Seal's love of cars and music. Kevan's Father, Jim Seal who hosts a show every Saturday called "Rockin' With Jim" 3pm-8pm was the inspiration for the range of music that is played and a "real hero" to Kevan. Also, the name "Chrome" is inspired by the name of the black and white camera film
"Kodachrome".

You will see that on Chrome 93.5 fm, there is wall to wall music with the exeption of radio veteran Jim Seal (Kevan's Father) on Saturdays from 3pm - 8pm. Then the "Little Walter" show takes over.

The official "call letters" of 93.5 Chrome FM are KQLL-HD2, because it is a true digital signal. The sound quality in the Tulsa metro for 50's and 60's music is unequaled.

Some of the most common questions about CHROME!

So, wonder why you can't get it some places? how about DJ's? What about live events? How far does it go? What does "Chrome" mean?

These are just some of the questions I am asked everyday, so I will address some of the most common.

#1) Why I can't I pick up Chrome downtown or in other places?

93.5 Chrome FM is a 250 watt FM station. That is a strong as the F.C.C will allow us to power that frequency up to. It is a "city grade" signal. I suggest going to a "Radio hut" type of store and buying the "thumbtack antennas" that are shaped like a "Big letter T" and plug that into the back of your home reciever. That will help you get it at home. As far as the car is concerned? Well, that just depends where you are rollin':-)

#2) Will it ever be stronger?

Right now we consider it a priveledge to be able to put on all of your favorite music now! For now, it will remain 250 watts.

#3) How do we help keep Chrome on the air?

Word of mouth. That will create more interest for advertisers, thus the station gets more of what it needs.

#4) How do I advertise my business on Chrome and is now a good time?

Absolutely! Because CHROME is so new, advertising rates are an excellent value. So much passion has been shown for this station by all of you, now is definatly the time to "lock in" a great advertising schedule and rate. Feel free to call Kevan at (918) 388-5176 and he will personally bring your needs to the proper "Chrome" marketing team member.

The "Baby Boomer"..This is YOUR Rock and Roll!!

   BABY BOOMER

The "Baby Boomer" by defininition, for the "young folks" who don't know what that means.

Soon after World War II began the greatest explosion of births in America. From 1946 to 1964 approximately 78 million births took place. People born during this time are referred to as Baby boomers. A sub group born between 1955 to 1964 have been referred to as "Generation Jones" , a name given by author Jonathan Pontell. 1957 recorded the greatest number of births at 4.3 million. Kathleen Casey Kitschling is considered the first boomer being born at midnight on New Year's Day 1946 in Pennsylvania.

American Culture
Baby boomers grew up in the 1940's, 50's ,60's, and 1970's. They were the first to be raised with television. Because of that it helped create a sense of identity among the group. Shows such as "Father Knows Best", "Ozzie and Harriet", and "Leave it to Beaver", depicted family life as a time of innocence while images of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show, theVietnam war and Woodstock created a sense of freedom, individualism and social activism. Identity was also created by the invention of the transistor radio. Teens and young adults would listen to Rock and Roll now called "classic", and sounds of Motown. Some events the older boomers 1946 to 1954 find memorable were the Vietnam war, anti war protests, sexual freedom, recreational
drug use, civil, environmental and women equality movements. The assassinations of Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and JFK, helped erase much of the late 1940's and 50's innocence. Many younger boomers, the Generation Jones group 1955 to1964, feel the events of inflation, lack of gasoline in the early 70's, the Cold war and Watergate were more memorable to them. This created cynicism and a feeling of being less optimistic than the older boomers.

Impact on culture and history
Most experts agree boomers young and old expanded individual freedom and influenced the feminist, gay rights and civil rights movements. They have and continue to effect areas of cultural, academic, economic and political leadership. For instance Bill Clinton and George W Bush are boomers. But music is what many feel is their most enduring contribution to American and World culture. So many great songs were created between the 1940's to the 70's that many of today's singers and musicians have been influenced by their legacy. For instance the sounds
of Rhythm and Blues, 50's and early 60's Rock and Roll and even Country music paved the way for many. American acts such as The Beach Boys, Ricky Nelsen, Jan and Dean, The Byrds, The Mamas and the Papas, Crosby Stills Nash and Young plus Jimi Hendrix got the youth dancing, singing and groovin to the music. The British invasion also set things on fire. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Yard Byrds, Dusty Springfield, The Kinks, Petula Clark and Donovan to name a few helped seal the deal. Singers such as Elvis and Frank Sinatra even though a bit older helped influence many boomer age music acts.

Baby boomer offspring...Generation Y
The children of the Baby boomer and Generation Jones are usually referred to as Generation Y, "Echo Boomers". They were born between 1976 to 1994. They rival the boomers in size with approximately 76 million.

Characteristics
According to author Bruce Tulgan, "unlike previous generations they have generally been pampered, nurtured and programmed with a slew of activities since they were toddlers meaning they are both high performance and high maintenance.'' They believe in their own worth. Some experts have said this has lead to a general feeling of entitlement. In a way much like their parents they are for the most part not afraid to challenge the status quo. Also they see technology as a tool rather than a barrier to overcome. Very tech savy, since they grew up with it. Unlike boomers who tend to put a high priority on career, a lot of these young workers tend to be more interested in making their jobs fit in with their personal lives. A higher value on self fulfillment. Many Yer's are multitaskers; can juggle e-mails while using Blackberrys and talking
on the cell-phone at the same time etc. Many have high expectations for themselves, their employer and their manager. NAS, a labor recruitment company reports Yer's seem to get along better with boomers than Generation Xer's, 1965 to 1982, because they are more tolerant of others's views. Yer's show a lot of interest in retro-oriented culture and the drive to revive it. Many have an interest in Rock and Roll bands of the 1960's and 70's, the whole retro hippie ( helper in promoting peaceful individual existence) look etc. They seem to be generally conservative in their lifestyles yet not conservative politically. They have financial smarts. A lot are good at saving money unlike their boomer parents.

Impact on Society
Because of their large numbers and upbringing by boomers, this group will very likely influence society greatly. They grew up in the age of technology, availability of education and boomer parents who wanted to give it all to their children.
